Magnetic materials mainly refer to those materials that can directly or indirectly generate magnetism with such transition elements as iron, cobalt, nickel and their alloy.
According to their texture and structure, magnetic materials can be divided into two main groups that are metal as well as alloy magnetic materials and ferrite magnetic materials. And the ferrite magnetic materials can be further divided into polycrystalline structure and monocrystalline structure.
According to their applicable functions, magnetic materials can be classified into such groups as soft magnetic materials, permanent magnetic materials, magnetic recording materials, rectangular magnetic materials and gyro magnetic materials. There are both metallic materials as well as ferrite materials in soft magnetic materials, permanent magnetic materials, magnetic recording materials and rectangular magnetic materials while in gyro magnetic materials and high-frequency soft magnetic materials, there are only ferrite materials for the reason that metal will generate huge eddy effect with high frequency and microwave frequency, which will result in unusable metal Biomedical Materials. However, the ferrite will solve this problem effectively and be widely used because of its high resistivity.
According to their form, magnetic materials can be divided into powder materials, liquid materials, grained materials as well as film materials.
Magnetic materials can be widely used in such sectors as electro acoustics, telecommunication, electricity meters and electrical machinery as well as memory components and microwave devices. What's more, they can also be applied in tapes that record languages, music and image information, magnetic storage devices of computers, passengers' vouchers for riding and magnetic cards for fares settlement.
On the automobile as well as the automotive electronics market, currently, the number of permanent magnet motors for those high-grade cars has been more than 40. Permanent magnetic ferrite and the rare earth permanent magnet are widely used. Moreover, a huge amount of aluminum-nickel cobalt as well as samarium cobalt permanent magnet is used also in the sensors of those instruments and meters. And soft magnetic materials are more extensively used in automotive electronics for their special characteristics.
In the illumination engineering, semiconductor light emitting diode (LED) is encouraged in order to further save the electric power. If it is widely popularized, there will be an enormous demand for ferrite soft magnetic materials. Furthermore, applications of new energy-saving electric light sources of different kinds such as HID, LED, high-pressure sodium lamps and high-frequency electronic discharge lamps are increasingly prevailing. In such green lighting equipment, the magnetic core of soft magnetic ferrite is always used as power and filter pieces.
In the field for the development and utilization of new energy, with the exploitation and use of solar energy, wind energy as well as water energy, there will be more and more demands for permanent magnetic materials and soft magnetic ferrites.
